For Immediate Release, May 14, 2008:
CONCORD —In a celebration of Champions Tour golf, gourmet cuisine and giving back, Bank of America today announced that it will present “Tastes of the Tour” at the 2008 Bank of America Championship, scheduled for June 20-22 at Nashawtuc Country Club.
Tastes of the Tour is a newly developed program that complements world-class golf with cuisine from some of the region’s top chefs, while generating awareness and important funding for The Grow Clinic at Boston Medical Center.
As part of the program, three of Boston's top chefs will conduct cooking demonstrations during each Championship Round day, providing tips and samples of their signature dishes for tournament fans. Ming Tsai (Blue Ginger), Rachel Klein (Aura), Jamie Mammano (Mistral), Marc Orfaly (Pigalle), Jason Tucker (Tresca) and Rich Vellante (Legal Sea Foods) are among the celebrity chefs participating in the program. Other restaurants represented will be Olives, Davio’s and Stoneforge.
Hosted by the husband and wife team of restaurateur Chris Spinazzola and radio talk-master Marjorie Clapprood, Tastes of the Tour will also feature daily appearances by Champions Tour professionals and their wives who will share their own favorite recipes with fans.
“One of the most important ways that we participate in the lives of our customers and communities is through philanthropic investment. Our association with the Bank of America Championship provides us with the opportunity to work with our partners at the PGA TOUR to enhance our collective giving throughout greater Boston,” said Bob Gallery, Massachusetts President, Bank of America. “Through Tastes of the Tour, we are continuing to support the tournament’s charitable heritage, while providing fans with a unique golf and culinary experience.”
Through the Tastes of the Tour, Bank of America will donate $50,000 to The Grow Clinic whose mission is to provide comprehensive medical, nutritional, social services and dietary assistance to children from the Greater Boston area diagnosed with Failure To Thrive (FTT). Children with FTT have significant problems growing and are not keeping pace with weight or height gain when compared to other children their age. Children are referred to The Grow Clinic by clinics and physicians throughout the Greater Boston area for special care. The Grow Clinic for Children is an outpatient subspecialty clinic at Boston Medical Center, started in 1984 to provide comprehensive specialty medical, nutritional and social services and dietary assistance to children from the Greater Boston area referred with Failure to Thrive by their primary care physician.
Event organizers are also encouraging tournament attendees to bring non-perishable food items to the Bank of America Championship, which will be collected at each admission gate and donated to The Grow Clinic’s food bank.
“Bank of America has served up a terrific program for golf fans,” said Ming Tsai, author, host of the popular cooking show Simply Ming and chef/owner of Blue Ginger. “I am honored to be a part of an event that broadens people’s culinary horizons and helps improve the health and well-being of local children.”
The twenty-eighth annual Bank of America Championship takes place June 20-22 at Nashawtuc Country Club in Concord. In 2007, the Bank of America Championship donated $377,500 to local charities. The tournament is the oldest 54-hole event on the Champions Tour and has been held at Nashawtuc Country Club since 1984. Over the past 27 years, the tournament has donated more than $4.8 million to local charities.
